In dieser Zeit nimmst du bei Bedarf an einem Sprachkurs teil, verbringst deine Arbeitszeit in unserem Park und im Permakulturgarten, in der Großküche, dem Café oder unserem Tagungshaus. Du nimmst Teil am Leben der Gemeinschaft und kannst mit anderen Freiwilligen zusammen das Leben in Deutschland und in der näheren Umgebung rund um Kassel erkunden.

Basic Information
Where? Lebensbogen Community near Kassel, Central Germany

About Lebensbogen Community
We are a community of 19 people between the age of 2 and 71, living together, united in the goal to live a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature. We share skills and resources, implement renewable energy, practice organic gardening and use principles of permaculture.
W e have a collectively owned seminar house and a beautiful organic café where we sell tasty soups, tarte flammbée and homemade cakes among other things.
Requirements
- Interest in sustainability and community living in a rural location (one hour from Kassel with public transport)
- Openness to learn and meet new people
- Motivation to work in the community (seminar house, café, garden, park)
- German Language skills (minimum A2 Level) and English language skills (minimum B2 Level if German Level is only A2)
- The willingness to learn or improve your German skills
Weekly working hours
You will be working 30 - 35 hours per week. The main work will be in kitchen of seminar house or café and housekeeping. Some hours you will work in garden or park. If you have sufficient German language skills, you can also work in guest services. The exact area in which you will work depends on your language skills, your personal prefernce and the needs in our community. Two hours per week you take time for your personal project and one is for mentoring.
Food and accommodation
We eat organic and mostly vegetarian and vegan food. When we eat together there is always a vegan option available. As a volunteer you have your own room with en-suite bathroom. You share the kitchen, living room, garden and other facilities with the community. And there is a music studio and a yoga and meditation space, that can be used by everyone.
Covered during ESC
Food and accommodation, health insurance and a monthly allowance of 210 Euros.
Placements
Placements for volunteers include:
- helping with the running of our seminar house (kitchen, housekeeping) for up to 150 guests during an event (mostly on weekends),
- maintaining our garden and park
- working in the organic café, which is a meeting place for hikers and local tourists as well as seminar guests and community members. It’s open only on saturday and sunday during summertime. On the other days, our honor-system kiosk is open.
Volunteers will also be involved in working groups that visit us for a week, giving people who are interested to join our community the chance to experience community living. They can participate in the weekly plenary meetings and community evenings.
The better their language skills, the more the volunteers can take on complex tasks, work independently, and participate more fully in community life.
Personal Projects
You are free to choose your own project, using your creativity and skills. The project should have either a direct link to sustainability or a clear solidarity aspect (e.g. working with children or young people from the surrounding villages). You can join an existing project at our community or in the region or start something new. It is a great opportunity to try something unrelated to your work experience and to expand your individual skills.
Social Life and Community Activities
The community has a lot of events and rituals which we welcome you to join and to get to know the people living with you. Birthday celebrations, dancing in the living room and spending time around the camp fire, evenings playing board games or table tennis are opportunities to participate in community life. You will have the opportunity to regularly reflect your experience and talk about problems with a support person in the community. The socially and culturally diverse city of Kassel is an hour away.
