Job description
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. CPS professionals provide long-term support to people on the ground in their commitment to dialogue, human rights, and peace. The "Prevention of Displacement and Sustainable Reintegration of Formerly Displaced Persons" program (CPS/IDP) is one of two programs of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) in Ethiopia and supports local partner organizations in their efforts to promote dialogue, human rights and peace. CPS/IDP empowers representatives of local government, civil society, traditional and religious leaders, and media professionals to promote non-violent conflict transformation between different population groups and to reduce flight and displacement. The CPS/IDP office is in Hawassa, the regional capital of Sidama Region. The program will transition to a follow-up program in 2027 based on the experiences and relationships developed from the previous work of both programs in Ethiopia.
Your tasks

  • Support partners in developing sustainable policies and practices for the organizational development and fundraising with a focus on peacebuilding projects in a restrictive civil society space
  • Contribute to CPS-IDP exit strategy while considering do-no-harm practices and conflict sensitivity
  • Drafting reports, creating, editing and refining relevant communication products to present project results to target audiences ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency
  • User-friendly preservation, dissemination and storage of relevant experiences, case studies and best practices resulting from the work of the program and its cooperation with partner organizations
  • Support the learning process between civil society organizations and government agencies by developing sustainable formats for dialogue, training and mediation
  • Working closely with different stakeholders to understand their knowledge needs and provide tailored and sustainable tools, methods and solutions.
  • Ensure that the filing and archiving of documents is up to date, accurate and effective

Your profile

  • Master´s degree in social sciences, sociology, political science, peace and conflict studies, documentation sciences, knowledge management, or other relevant fields
  • Previous work experience as a development worker with one of the secondment agencies recognized in Germany under the Development Workers Act (EhfG) is an advantage
  • Proven expertise and knowledge in the field of conflict prevention/transformation, preferably in Africa
  • Demonstrated experience in working with civil society organizations to strengthen their knowledge management and documentation capacities
  • Good training and facilitation skills, with experience in coaching and participatory adult learning methods and the ability to engage diverse audiences and stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a team, social and intercultural competence / sensitivity
  • Resilience and ability to maintain composure
  • Business fluent in English; knowledge of German is an advantage

The security situation is tense. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please note that this position is a short term position! Only candidates can be considered who had already a minimum of 1 year contract as a development worker according to the Entwicklungshelfergesetz (EhfG).

Willingness to travel on a regular basis is required.

The project vehicle can also be used for personal trips with your manager’s approval.
