At Commerzbank, we have just embarked on an ambitious project to rewrite the entire platform upon which our mobile and online banking services are built. As one of the leading banks in Europe, a new technology platform is needed to keep ahead of the competition as our millions of customers demand more features and more data delivered in real-time to their fingertips. For this massive and highly complex project of critical importance, we are looking for top class people to deliver Europe’s best banking experience.
To deliver this new project, we are building a new team here in Prague, starting with a core group of Business Analysts and Architects to lay the foundations of the project. Over the course of 2026, the team will grow to include frontend and backend developers working on core infrastructure and delivering key features.
Given the high-profile of the application, this new team has a huge responsibility, making this an intensive, exciting and truly unique opportunity to expand and develop your organizational skills and international experience.
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Java engineer to join our new team building our new online and mobile banking platform. We are looking for someone motivated to get things done correctly, rather than quickly. You will work closely with the Tech Lead to implement the new architecture of the project, drawing on your years of experience to produce rock solid, performant and scalable solutions.
Your tasks
- Design and develop backend features alongside your frontend colleagues;
- Collaborate with system solution architecture topics within the team;
- Perform technical analysis of new requirements;
- Participate in the development of new APIs serving the needs of new UI functionality;
- Be part of an agile team refining and planning user stories with backend developers, Business Experts and UX designers;
- Support incident resolution and bug fixing in production;
- Participate in code reviews amongst the team.
Your profile
Technical:
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or related;
- 5 or more years active professional experience using Java and Spring Boot;
- Extensive experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server);
- Development of REST APIs;
- Experience with noSQL and distributed caching an advantage;
- Kafka;
- Docker.
Other skills and experience:
- High analytical thinking with attention to details and problem-solving attitude;
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills;
- Good team player with high ability to work in international teams;
- Previous experience working in an agile environment;
- Fluency in English - both written and spoken as you will be in daily contact with native and non-native speakers.
